Neuro osteoarthropathy (Charcot's joint) in a young diabetic.

چکیده
Neuro-osteoarthropathy (Charcot’s Joint) in diabetic patients has been well described in literaturc. It has been defined as a chronic progressive degenerative process principally occurring in weight-bearing joints in the feet of diabetic patients who have underlying peripheral neuropathy and loss of sensation. Although considered as a clinical rarity, it has been reported more frequently in recent years7-9,11,12. This observation can be attributed to the longevity of diabetic patients and dramatic decrease in mortality since the insulin era. The association between juvenile onset diabetes and skeletal lesions is relatively uncommon. We report a case of young woman who had juvenile onset diabetes and developed bilateral neuroarthropathy involving feet.

Sudeck's disease stage 1, or diabetic Charcot's foot stage 0? Case report and assessment of the diagnostic value of MRI
BACKGROUND The diagnosis of Sudeck's syndrome stage 1 (nowadays termed complex regional pain syndrome I, abbreviated CRPS I) is based on clinical features, namely swelling and pain in a limb. Plain X-ray may be normal. In the absence of pain sensitivity, e.g. in diabetic neuropathy, CRPS I of the foot can be mistaken for Charcot's foot stage 0 (so-called neuro-osteoarthropathy). CASE PRESENTA...
متن کاملRole of neuropathy on fracture healing in Charcot neuro-osteoarthropathy.
Charcot neuro-osteoarthropathy (CNO) is a devastating condition affecting most commonly the foot/ankle joint in diabetic patients and may lead to severe deformities and amputation. Peripheral sensory neuropathy seems to be a pre-requisite to the development of CNO. The aim of this review article is to summarise the skeletal effects of the nervous system on bone remodelling and fracture healing ...
متن کاملOsteomyelitis or Charcot neuro-osteoarthropathy? Differentiating these disorders in diabetic patients with a foot problem
Both osteomyelitis and Charcot neuro-osteoarthropathy (CN) are potentially limb-threatening complications of diabetic neuropathy, but they require quite different treatments. Almost all bone infections in the diabetic foot originate from an infected foot ulcer while diabetic osteoarthropathy is a non-infectious process in which peripheral neuropathy plays the critical role. Differentiating betw...
متن کاملAbout the role of neuropathy on fracture healing in charcot neuro-osteoarthropathy.
I read with great interest the recent article by Mabilleau and Edmonds on the role of neuropathy on fracture healing in Charcot neuro-osteoarthropathy. There are, however, some inconsistencies that need to be addressed: on p 84, the authors state that “the aetiopathogenesis of diabetic Charco neuro-osteoarthropathy is still unclear” , while on p 87 they claim it begins with “trauma leading to i...
متن کاملVertebral osteoarthropathy of Charcot's disease of the spine.
Charcot joints are said to occur in from 3 to 10 per cent of tabetics. \Vhen Rotter reviewed 112 cases of Charcot joints in 1887, he reported no case in which the spine was involved. Since then, however, many cases of vertebral osteoarthropathy have been reported in tiue literature. The condition is probably more common than is usually believed. Garvey and Glass (1927) reported that in the Univ...
